DUI Victim Advocates will go to court on behalf of, or with anyone affected by an impaired driving tragedy in order to provide emotional support, and clarification on legal proceedings.
DUI Case Coordination:
DUI Victim Advocates are available to provide case updates and additional information regarding DUI related court proceedings as well as to assist with getting court records, documents, and personal property.
Victim Impact Statement:
DUI Victim Advocates are available to help victims write a statement that they can read in court to the Judge during their DUI case. Advocates are also available to read on behalf of victims who are unable to verbalize their feeling to personally express their tragedy.
If someone victimized by an impaired driver is left without a vehicle, or traumatized by driving, DUI Victim Advocates are able to transport DUI victims and their families from home or work to court round trip.
The Kansas DUI Impact Center provides childcare to parents and families while they are in court, or attending legal meetings regarding their case. This service is also available to law enforcement personnel testifying in DUI related cases.
Crime Victims Fund Compensation Application:
DUI Victim Advocates are available to assist victims with requesting monetary compensation from the State’s Crime Victims Fund.
DUI Victim Advocates facilitate conversational and activity based support groups in family, one-to-one, and group settings.
The Kansas DUI Impact Center observes and reports on 27 court dockets relating to impaired driving cases. Our goal is to monitor the outcomes of DUI cases and report findings to local law enforcement partners and the community at large in the interest of increasing public safety for us all. We care about what happens in Kansas courts regarding impaired driving crime and the individuals and families victimized by drivers under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
